JumpCut

JumpCut is a Yahoo Powered video editing and remixing service that lets you upload videos, and then remix and refine them through editing. You can explore other videos and then remix those videos yourself. It requires a Yahoo account, which I'm sure you have if you have a Yahoo email account or a Flickr account.

Overall it's pretty good way to edit up yours videos when your away from any other special programs like windows movie maker or vegas or whatever you use to edit up your videos. It works great but the other videos on here aren't really all that interesting or meaningful to anyone besides those who created it. But sending a video you've uploaded to a friend or family, means they can take the footage and edit it together all within jumpcut and then remix it to emphasize things they important to them, they can even include snippets of video which will get added back in to a pool of videos that you can use to remix your video with.

It gets really exciting when you have a whole group of people who've each taken video from their perspective, and then you end up with this giant pool of photos, sounds, and videos from different angles at different moments all intertwined. You can take those and edit it, or just look at what others have edited.

Jump Cut
isn't really meant for finding tv shows or cool videos, so if you look to it to find movies and tv shows you'lll be sorely dissappointed. Instead, Jump Cut offers you video editing and group video editing - which can be really fun when all the participants bring their own personal video footage and resources so that the group has a large variety of video to experiment and play around with. If you're looking to piece together a video of a family event, a wedding, or maybe just some sort of carnival or event - then Jump Cut is definately something you should look into.

Exclaim! TV spotlights Canadian Music

Exclaim! TV
Exclaim! TV is a music video site that houses lots of music videos. But unlike MTV, what you won't find here are the usual clap trap of popular videos or anything that could even be remotely considered mainstream. Instead you'll find a strong focus on Canadian music artists, trailers for independent movies, and interviews with everyone between the two.

It's not fair to really call this site a video site, because the videos are complimentary to full Rolling Stones-esque articles on rockn'roll and pop culture. The video player is amongst the cleanest I've seen, and just plain works. Videos load fast and the content is varied, but is really only has two types of appeal - awareness of music and movies you may not have heard of, and a promotional platform for Canadian artists Those not interested in either, and I'm quite sure this applies to the vast majority, would not find a great deal to do here. Also the TV suffix is far from accurate, since the site mostly sports articles with additional videos.

The Overall Ratings for Exclaim! TV:
Show Diversity: (3/5)

Based on the mixture of television shows available on the site.
Loading Speed: (5/5)
The time taken to navigate the site and load videos.
Ease of Navigation: (4/5)

Advertisements: (1/5) (Asides from some widgets and buttons, I didn't see anyhting intrusive)
Based on the annoyance level of advertisements on this site, the amount of ads, and the volatility of ads appearing on the page.
The lower the rating, the less annoying the ads are.

Total Score: 16/20

Exclaim! TV
wasn't the best site I've seen, but it's certainly good for those looking for a distinctly Canadian voice on matters of pop culture. While not a great deal of non-Canadians would be interested in this, it definately is something that some may be interested in checking out - if not for another perspective on North American entertainment culture, then for the edgy articles and videos that are sure to please those with a distate for mainstream media.

TeacherTube does more then Educate

TeacherTube, a site for teachers, trainers, and educational professionals, claims to be the best resource for educational videos and training instructions. It closely resembles a stripped down version of YouTube, and the content is instantly identifiable from YouTube or any other video site where the front page would be filled with video thumbnails of a woman's breasts or a collection of rap music videos.

Teacher Tube is devoid of the usual fare, instead making room for a mixture of instructional videos, teacher humour, and in-class activities and lessons for teachers to use in their own classrooms. For a site of this magnitude, it has managed to keep away pornography and adult videos - which is no easy job, what's left are educational videos, math excercises, learning cartoons and videos documenting in-class lessons.

The Overall Ratings for Teacher Tube:
Show Diversity: (3/5)

Based on the mixture of television shows available on the site.
Loading Speed: (4/5)
The time taken to navigate the site and load videos.
Ease of Navigation: (4/5)
How easy is it to use and navigate.
Advertisements: (3/5) (Ads appear throughout videos, ads little difficult to navigate)
Based on the annoyance level of advertisements on this site, the amount of ads, and the volatility of ads appearing on the page.
The lower the rating, the less annoying the ads are.

Total Score: 14/20

TeacherTube
could certainly do with a bit more interesting videos, right now it focuses too much on clips. While not entirely drained of humor or entertainment, TeacherTube appears to a very select niche group of educators which may render it not exactly the best source for videos, but for those in the education field - TeacherTube is sure to offer something constructive.

Chic TV - A Video Site for the Modern Woman

Chic TV

Chic TV is actually a very interesting idea. It takes the all too popular video network concept and reinvigorates it by applying it to woman, but mainly catering to a 20 something crowd, who while tech savvy really have no place to go for video. Most video sites generally are overpopulated with guys, and it's very easy to realize that the most popular videos tend to be ones with skantly clad women. Chic TV attempts to do things a little different by supplying various videos suited for the modern metropolitian woman - mixing a Sex and the City lifestyle with haute culture and fashion.

Videos are presented in an on-demand style with videos constantly playing in playlists. The ads at the bottom and before each video get really annoying and tiresome. Besides that, there is quite a lot to see if you're interested in makeup, fashion, food and travelling.

The Overall Ratings for Chic TV:
Show Diversity: (3/5)

Based on the mixture of television shows available on the site.
Loading Speed: (4/5)
The time taken to navigate the site and load videos.
Ease of Navigation: (4/5)

Advertisements: (3/5) (Intro Ads are annoying and repetitive and unncessary)
Based on the annoyance level of advertisements on this site, the amount of ads, and the volatility of ads appearing on the page.
The lower the rating, the less annoying the ads are.

Total Score: 13/20

Chic.TV
's main downpoint is the annoying ads that appear before each video that are exactly the same and are ads for the site followed by an ad for some commercial use of their platform. The second of which doesn't appeal to just viewers and seems to be geared towards advertisers or busineses. There's no way to skip the ad, and there's no point putting it in. But if you can get over the annoyingness of the ads, you can find some great videos on the topics of fashion culture. It's nice to see a site catering to a specific demographic that isn't really being targetted right out, so Chic TV for now defintely server a purpose and place.
